Terence is a partner of the firm’s dispute resolution practice. He has extensive experience in all types of dispute resolution including shareholders’ disputes, commercial litigation, cross border arbitration, receivership, liquidation, bankruptcy, divorce, custody, wardship, guardianship, mediation, Mental Health Ordinance related applications, professional misconduct, defamation, shipping, contentious probate matters, commercial fraud, disciplinary proceedings, regulatory and criminal matters. Terence has represented companies listed in HKSE and NASDAQ, real estate developers, local and international banks and financial institutions, multijurisdictional corporations, charitable organizations, NGOs, government officials, celebrities and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Terence has participated in legal proceedings in different jurisdictions viz. Hong Kong, Mainland China, Canada, USA, BVI, Bermuda and Panama.

Prior to joining Zhong Lun, Terence had worked in Fairbairn Catley Low & Kong for over 22 years during which he was partner for 17 years.

Terence is a former member of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce (SME Committee), former Tutor for Business Law at the Metropolitan University of Hong Kong (formerly the Open University of Hong Kong), former Volunteer Legal Advisor at the Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centre and former Mentor for legal professionals at the La Salle College Old Boys Association. He has also been invited to give seminars by the Law Society of Hong Kong and financial institutions.

  • Represented a Listed Company and its group in successfully opposing appointment of receivers, joint provisional liquidators and winding-up proceedings commenced in different jurisdictions including Hong Kong and Bermuda involving disputes over assets exceeding HK$15 billion
  • Represented a top billionaire in bankruptcy proceedings including setting aside statutory demands issued against him on alleged indebtedness exceeding a total sum of HK$10 billion
  • Represented an NGO in obtaining favourable judgment from the High Court in a high-profile defamation claim and successfully liquidated the defendant company for its failure to settle the judgment sum
  • Represented a Listed Company in cross border arbitration proceedings involving Hong Kong, BVI and Mainland China in relation to a claim of over HK$1.2 billion
  • Represented former directors in alleged breach of directors’ duties proceedings involving a cross-border golf and country club and a well-known Listed Company
  • Advised on professional negligence and disciplinary proceedings involving medical practitioners, accountants, social workers, liquidators and receivers
  • Represented former chairman, secretary and treasurer of a management committee of the Incorporated Owners and successfully defended against allegations on breach of duties of management committee members in entering into a maintenance contract without proper authority
  • Represented private and corporate clients in recovery of entitlement in landed properties including Court of Final Appeal and Court of Appeal proceedings
  • Represented one of the world’s top food manufacturers in a defamation claim against a major local newspaper and successfully obtained written apologies from the defendants
  • Represented renowned multinational shipping corporations in Admiralty List cases involving proceedings in Hong Kong and other jurisdictions and successfully struck out the plaintiffs’ alleged claims
  • Represented the petitioner lawful wife in a highly contentious divorce suit when the other alleged wife also commenced divorce proceedings against the same respondent husband concurrently and conducted large scale assets tracing in Hong Kong, USA and Mainland China
  • Represented a celebrity mother in access and maintenance disputes against the father who was well known in the legal profession
  • Represented an ultra-high-net-worth businessman father in intervening into his son’s ancillary relief proceedings involving assets of over HK$4 billion
  • Represented a father in applying to the court to remove a minor out of the jurisdiction of Hong Kong for immigration purpose involving disputes over the appointment of child psychologist
  • Represented a former husband in successfully defending against his former wife’s alleged claim for dishonoured cheque issued pursuant to a settlement agreement
  • Represented clients in applying for ouster orders and non-molestation orders in matrimonial and other civil proceedings
  • Represented an NGO in wardship proceedings involving neglect/abuse of an illegitimate Non Refoulement Claimant minor and adoption proceedings which lasted for more than 8 years
  • Represented a grandparent of a minor in successfully obtaining the guardianship order when the minor’s parents refused to participate in the care and control of the minor
  • Advised on Mental Health Ordinance related proceedings including representing family members of the Mentally Incapacitated Persons (“MIP”) to apply to court to form Committees to manage the financial matters of the MIPs
  • Represented the Official Solicitor on numerous occasions in seeking recovery of assets on behalf of the MIPs in divorce proceedings or from their family members and third parties
  • Represented parents of an MIP in applying to the Guardianship Board for an order to make urgent medical decisions on behalf the MIP
  • Represented the executor in contentious probate proceedings and successfully obtained the Grant of Probate by striking out the defendant’s alleged Letters of Administration
  • Represented clients in making beddoe application and represented beneficiaries in challenging the authenticity of a will and successfully obtained favourable results through mediation
  • Advised a potential administrator in contentious probate proceedings in relation to an estate involving assets around the world exceeding HK$6 billion
  • Represented a client in successfully defending against alleged claims made by executors of a former chairman of a listed company demanding return of ultra-high valued inter vivos gifts
  • Represented private clients and eminent charitable organizations in both seeking or contesting applications for relief made pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Ordinance
  • Advised shareholders of an acclaimed interior design company and a well-established electric fan manufacturer on shareholders’ disputes involving removal of directors and winding up proceedings
  • Represented the seller in a merger and acquisition dispute and successfully defended against the buyer’s alleged claim for damages of over HK$50 million for breach of representations and warranties
  • Represented senior bankers and top executives of multinational organizations/listed companies in restrictive covenant and employment issues
  • Represented private clients and insurance companies in personal injuries proceedings (including claims against Hospital Authority and medical practitioners)
  • Initiated ex-parte and inter-partes injunctions, Anton Piller Orders and other enforcement proceedings on behalf of private and corporate clients including NGOs
  • Advised major banks and financial institutions, multinational courier companies and leading camera manufacturer on enforcement proceedings including charging orders, garnishee orders, mortgagee action, receivership and liquidation
  • Represented clients in criminal investigations and proceedings conducted by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Securities and Futures Commission, Independent Commission Against Corruption, Commercial Crimes Bureau of the Police, Customs and Excise Department etc
  • Acted as the legal advisor for a global leading Traditional Chinese Medicine research and development company and facilitated it in successful listing in NASDAQ
